Concert films from Billy Joel, Coldplay hit theaters this fall
Though excitement for late fall releases like “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” are high, moviegoers who hit the cineplex before these two tentpoles arrive might be a little disappointed to find there isn’t as much variety as there was this past summer.
However, movie theaters in Central Florida aren’t letting their auditoriums sit empty, as a number of throwback and new concert films will be available in the coming weeks featuring several popular artists.
On Oct. 5 and 9, several Central Florida theaters will be screening a special edition of Billy Joel’s legendary 1990 concert at Yankee Stadium. The concert, which was originally shot in 16 mm has been remixed and reedited in 4K with Dolby Atmos-enhanced audio. In addition, attendees will be able to see a never-before-released performance of “Uptown Girl” along with interviews from Joel and behind-the-scenes footage from the event’s original production.
Theaters screening the concert event include AMC Disney Springs, Cinemark
Orlando XD, and Regal Winter Park. Tickets are available now at billyjoel. film.
Later this month Coldplay’s record-breaking Music Of The Spheres world tour will hit local movie theaters for a special live broadcast from Buenos Aires’ River Plate stadium on Oct. 28-29. Directed by acclaimed BAFTA-winning
and Grammy-nominated director Paul Dugdale, the concert will feature the band’s full tour set list including “Yellow,” “The Scientist,” “Fix You,” “Viva La Vida,” “A Sky Full Of Stars” and “My Universe.” Tickets for this special event are available at coldplaycinema.live and Central Florida theaters showing the event include the AMC
Altamonte Springs, Universal Cinemark at CityWalk and Epic theaters of Clermont.
Early next month, Grateful Dead fans can check out this year’s “Meet up at the Movies” on Nov. 1 and 5, which is celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the legendary Europe ‘72 album by bringing the previously unreleased 1972
Tivoli Concert Hall performance to the big screen. The concert features songs like “Big Railroad Blues,” “Truckin,””Ramble on Rose,” “Jack Straw” and “One More Saturday Night.”
Tickets are available at meetupatthemovies.com. The only area theaters currently scheduled to host this screening are the
Cinépolis Luxury Cinemas Hamlin and Regal Winter Park location.
Showtimes for these concert screenings vary by theater, and ticket prices are a little more expensive than your typical matinee, ranging between $15-$20 (before fees).
