- By Stephanie Allen Staff Writer

They started arguing after he missed a turn. He then grabbed a box cutter, held it to her throat, slashed her arms, dragged her as she tried to jump from his minivan and then ran her over, police said.

She lay injured on a sidewalk as witnesses came to help. He ran before officers arrived.

Police said they’re still searching for 35-year-old Lawrence Wiley following the attack on his wife Sunday afternoon in west Orlando.

He faces charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment, child abuse and child neglect, Orlando police say. His wife is still recovering.

The incident started around noon as they drove with their three children to Lake Wales, the woman told police. She said they started arguing when Wiley missed a turn. He kept driving but got upset, grabbed a box cutter and held it to her neck, a report said.

Fearing the vehicle might crash, she sat still with the blade to her throat. He refused numerous times to let her out and continued to an undisclosed location in Lake Wales, where he got out to smoke a cigarette, the report states.

She then grabbed their kids and told them to run before he noticed. Their 12-year-old didn’t listen, though, and Wiley saw what she was doing, the report states. He then got the kids back into the car and she followed, not wanting them to be alone with Wiley, she told police.

Eventually, they made it back to Orlando, where they argued again when Wiley refused to take his wife to her parents’ house, the report said. He held the box cutter to her neck and slashed and stabbed her hands and arms, police said.

She tried to bail out of the minivan, but got caught and was dragged as Wiley tried to drive away, the report states. Tipsters can contact Crimeline at 800-423-8477.
