Holman slated to play against USF
UCF quarterback Justin Holman is expected to play against USF, interim coach Danny Barrett said during his weekly Monday press conference.
Holman suffered a high ankle sprain during a 44-7 loss to East Carolina last Thursday. Both backups Tyler Harris and Bo Schneider took turns running the offense and former quarterback-turned-receiver Nick Patti also chipped in against the Pirates.
“He is expected to play,” Barrett said of Holman. “He re-injured a previous injury the other night as opposed to keeping him out there hobbling around a little bit. ... He has done a good job with rehabilitation. Our training staff does a good job so he is expected to play.”
Holman completed 9 of 17 passes for 110 yards with one touchdown to Tre’Quan Smith and one interception against the Pirates. Harris was 2-of-12 passing for 21 yards. Schneider was 0-of-3 passing. He ran the ball once for a gain of five yards.
Patti never tossed a pass, instead carrying the ball twice for a total of four yards.
Senior offensive lineman Joey Grant is expected to participate in Senior Day with his parents.
Grant ended his senior season after the Stanford game in September due to longstanding shoulder injuries.
Fellow injured senior defensive lineman Demetris Anderson will not participate because he is petitioning for a sixth year of eligibility, Barrett said.
