LSU falls again, this time in OT

Anthony Barber scored 20 points and North Carolina State needed overtime to get an 83-72 victory over No. 22 LSU on Tuesday night.

Five players reached double figures for the Wolfpack (3-2), who led by 12 early in the second half. Barber scored six of his points in overtime when N.C. State outscored the Tigers (3-2) 18-7.

LSU star freshman Ben Simmons fouled out early in overtime but had his fourth double-double. He finished with 14 rebounds and 10 assists and hit a game-tying layup with 38 seconds remaining in regulation. Tim Quarterman led the Tigers with 19 points and Brandon Sampson added 18.

Oklahoma 96, Incarnate Word 63: Buddy Hield scored 22 points to help the No. 7 Sooners roll over the Cardinals.

The preseason first-team All-American, who also had six rebounds and five assists in 22 minutes, is averaging 25.3 points through three games. Ryan Spangler had 12 points and 10 rebounds for Oklahoma (3-0), which shot 59 percent and held a 51-23 rebounding edge.

Indiana 83, St. John’s 73: Yogi Ferrell had 22 points and seven assists to lead the No. 13 Hoosiers to a victory over the Red Storm in the consolatio­n round of the Maui Invitation­al.

Freshman center Thomas Bryant had a career-high 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting for Indiana (4-1), which plays UNLV Wednesday.

Federico Mussini and Ron Mvouika had 17 points each for St. John’s (3-2).

Vanderbilt 86, Wake Forest 64: Wade Baldwin IV and Damian Jones both scored 17 points and the latter added 10 rebounds as the No. 19 Commodores easily handled the Demon Deacons in the semifinals of the Maui Jim Maui Invitation­al.

Vanderbilt (5-0) will play either No. 5 Kansas or UCLA Wednesday for the championsh­ip.

Cincinnati 64, SE Louisiana 49: Troy Caupain and Jacob Evans III scored 15 points apiece, and the No. 24 Bearcats (5-0) overcame low-percentage shooting to beat the Lions.
