Osceola, Dr. Phillips jump

Five area teams are now one win away from state semifinals.

Four of those teams play in local region final matchups Friday, headlined by a Class 8A, Region 2 final that has No. 3 Kissimmee Osceola playing at No. 5 Dr. Phillips.

The Kowboys and Panthers moved up in the rankings this week following losses by Apopka and Lake Brantley.

No. 2 Daytona Beach Mainland hosts Miami Central, who they lost to in the playoffs in each of the past two years.

No. 7 Bishop Moore hosts Hallandale.

No. 1 West Orange goes on the road to play unbeaten Jacksonvil­le Mandarin.

1. West Orange (11-1): Warriors beat defending Class 8A champs Apopka for second time this season on two TD catches by Naquan Renalds.

2. Daytona Beach Mainland (11-1): QB Denzel Houston led Bucs on two touchdown drives in third quarter in 21-14 win over Palm Bay Heritage.

3. (5) Kissimmee Osceola (11-1): LaDerrien Wilson and Malcolm Davidson each rushed for over 100 yards and the defense had five sacks in 42-35 win over Vero Beach.

4. Apopka (10-2): Lost 21-14 at No. 1 West Orange. Season complete.

5. (6) Dr. Phillips (9-3): Three players rushed for more than 100 yards and Richard McKenzie recorded three sacks in 41-21 win over Bradenton Manatee.

6. (3) Lake Brantley (11-1): Lost 20-0 at Jacksonvil­le Mandarin. Season complete.

7. Bishop Moore (11-1): RB Trilion Coles scored three touchdowns for Hornets in 49-28 win over visiting Merritt Island.

8. Oak Ridge (8-3): Season complete.

9. Hagerty (8-3): Season complete.

10. Orange City University (0-10): Forfeited eight wins due to use of ineligible player.

11. Timber Creek (7-4): Season compete.

12. Oviedo (7-4)*: Season complete.

13. South Sumter (8-3): Season complete.

14. Edgewater (7-4): Season complete.
