Purdue upsets Spartans in OT

Rapheal Davis made one of two free throws with 4.6 seconds left in overtime Tuesday night to help No. 18 Purdue pull off an 82-81 upset over No. 8 Michigan State in West Lafayette, Ind.

The Boilermake­rs (20-5, 8-4 Big Ten) snapped a seven-game losing streak in the series despite blowing an 18-point second-half lead, trailing by four late in regulation and allowing the Spartans to tie it at 81 with 11.5 seconds left in OT.

Davis broke the tie with his free throw, giving him 24 points. A.J. Hammons (19 points, 13 rebounds, eight blocks) wrestled the second shot away from Michigan State (20-5, 7-5) to seal it.

Denzel Valentine led the Spartans with 27 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists.

Creighton 70, Xavier 56:

Maurice Watson scored a career-high 32 points and the Bluejays rode a fast start to an upset of the No. 5 Musketeers.

Creighton (16-9, 7-5 Big East) used an early 16-0 run to take a 17-point lead nine minutes into the game and then held off Xavier (21-3, 9-3), which got 17 points

from Jalen Reynolds. North Carolina 68, Boston College 65: Playing most of the second half without coach Roy Williams, who left the bench after complainin­g of vertigo, the No. 9 Tar Heels rallied to beat the Eagles (7-17, 0-11).

Justin Jackson scored 20 points for North Carolina (20-4, 9-2 ACC). Kansas 75, West Virginia

65: Perry Ellis had 21 points and Landen Lucas pulled down a career-high 16 rebounds as the No. 6 Jayhawks beat the No. 10 Mountainee­rs to forge a three-way tie atop the Big 12.

Frank Mason III added 14 points for Kansas (20-4, 8-3), which joined West Virginia (19-5, 8-3) and No. 3 Oklahoma in first place. Devin Williams had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Mountainee­rs.

Miami 65, Pittsburgh 63:

Angel Rodriguez scored on an offensive rebound with 1.4 seconds left to lift the No. 12 Hurricanes (19-4, 8-3 ACC) over the Panthers (17-6, 6-5).
