Officer crashes patrol vehicle into Toyota

-

An Orange County deputy hauling a suspect was involved in a crash in Orlando Monday. The crash happened near the intersection of Michigan Street and Delaney Avenue about 5:15 p.m., Sheriff ’s Office spokeswoman Deputy Rose Silva said. The deputy, who wasn’t identified, wasn’t injured. The driver of the Toyota Yaris he hit was transported to the hospital, Cpl. Roland Hernandez said. The suspect in the back of the patrol vehicle was also taken to the hospital “out of precaution,” Hernandez said. Deputies did not know why that man was in custody. Carlos Acevedo, who works at the Valvoline Instant Oil Change, saw the crash and said the deputy flew through a red light. “He didn’t even slow down or anything,” he said. “He had his lights on but his sirens weren’t on.” Both the woman and suspect were put in neck braces. The right front end of the deputy’s cruiser was slightly damaged, and the front end of the woman’s car was wrecked. Hernandez said he didn’t know whether the deputy went through a red light. Orlando police are investigating.
