Love everyone

-

While reading Friday’s article “Racist comments rile private school,” I was once again disturbed that Christians seem to be the target of prejudice.

I remember going to church as a child and learning a song: Jesus loves the little children/ All the children of the world/ Red and Yellow, Black and White/ they are precious in His sight/ Jesus loves the little children of the world.

We were taught to love everyone even as Jesus loved everyone. Of course, people are free to determine what they will believe or not as they grow older. There has been prejudice through the years of every nationality.

My parents, being Italian, suffered many injustices when they first came to America. The same can be said of Irish, Jewish, Polish and others. But, they all joined to support our great nation and realized we are one in our commitment to our country. They followed the laws, respected authority and when in the wrong, suffered the consequences.

We were not called ItalianAmericans or Irish-Americans. We were all Americans. One people, under God, undivided. Please let us get back to the basics of uniting our country. Those who choose to bring division should not be tolerated; nor should we attack the faith of God that speaks of love and unity. Lydia Demola Winter Park
