Divers recover body from Lake Conway

A dive team Thursday night recovered the body of a paddleboarder who fell into Lake Conway and never resurfaced, police said. Residents reported seeing the man, who hasn’t been identified, fall off the board about 6:30 p.m. and then struggle in the water, Belle Isle Police Chief Laura Houston said. He then went under the surface and never came back up, she said. Crews from the Belle Isle Police Department, Orange County Fire Rescue and Orange County Sheriff ’s Office searched the water for several hours before finding his body. A dive team recovered the man, who appeared to be in his 60s, about midnight, Houston said. Authorities did not disclose the man’s identity Friday. It’s unclear why the man fell off the paddleboard.
