3 suspects arrested in high school vandalism
A 21-year-old man and two teenagers were arrested Friday and accused of causing nearly $100,000 in damages to DeLand High School. Brandon Carver and two boys, 15 and 17, damaged doors, windows, computer screens, the woodworking shop and Junior ROTC building and had a food fight in the cafeteria, DeLand police said. They broke in overnight Tuesday using concrete blocks and smashed the computers with hammers, investigators said. Surveillance video captured the hoodie-clad young men throwing soda cans in the cafeteria. The teens are or were students at the high school, authorities said. Custodians and cafeteria workers found the damage when they arrived for work about 6 a.m. Wednesday. A fourth suspect also faces charges. His identity was not disclosed Friday. Carver was arrested on felony charges of criminal mischief causing damage of more than $1,000 and burglary. Police said they think the suspects were involved in vandalizing DeLand Middle School overnight Wednesday, but they have not been charged in that case.
