Oviedo upends Creek

Michael Lopez made a circus catch on a pass from sophomore quarterback Morgan Mitchell to give host Oviedo (1-0) a 20-19 win over No. 9 Timber Creek.

“Everyone thought we were going to lose,” Lopez said. “There was no way we were going to beat Timber Creek, they said.”

Lopez had a response to all the nonbelievers when he fought for control of the ball against a Timber Creek DB for the winning score. The stadium erupted. The first part of the battle was won. Lopez came down with the ball. Then came the part everyone forgot about. Whether or not he landed in or out-of-bounds. The referees gathered, banishing all players from their huddle, and a minute later, put their hands up, giving Oviedo the lead.

Mitchell passed for nearly 300 yards and two TDs.
