Del Rio questionable for next game

- Edgar Thompson

GAINESVILLE — UF quarterback Luke Del Rio is “highly doubtful” with a knee injury as the Gators prepare for Saturday’s visit to Vanderbilt.

Coach Jim McElwain said Del Rio would be limited at practice today but involved in the game plan. Backup Austin

Appleby is expected to make his second start. Meanwhile, some key defensive players are nursing injuries.

Tackle Joey Ivie is out with due to a thumb injury while cornerback Quincy Wilson and end Jordan Sherit are questionable with leg injuries.

Wilson likely would not practice today and needs to show he can play Wednesday. Sherit likely to play as UF looks to rebound from a 38-28 loss at Tennessee.

“I don’t anticipate him missing just because of who he is and how he goes about his daily business,” McElwain said.

Starting offensive guard Tyler Jordan (eye) has missed two games but will return to practice in a limited capacity.

The Gators will host LSU Oct. 8 at noon and the game will air on ESPN.

This rivalry game routinely has been shown at 3:30 p.m. on CBS or at night. But the game lost appeal after the Tigers fired coach Les

Miles Sunday and the Gators blew a 21-point lead at Tennessee Saturday.

“We put ourselves in position to play at noon,” McElwain said. “So we better get used to it.”

Next game: UF at Vanderbilt, noon Saturday, SEC Network.
