GOLF: The PGA Tour added an event, the CJ Cup, to its 2017 schedule. The limitedfie­ld event will be played Oct. 19-22 at Nine Bridges, located on Jeju Island off South Korea’s southern coast. The 78-man field would include the top 60 players available from the previous year’s FedEx Cup and 18 determined by exemption.

NBA: ESPN reported 76ers G Jerryd Bayless is likely to miss the first month of the season because of a torn ligament in his left wrist. … The Thunder waived F Mitch McGary. McGary faces two drug suspension­s for a combined minimum of 15 games. … The Lakers waived F Yi Jianlian at the player’s request. … Grizzlies F Chandler Parsons (knee) will not be cleared to play in the opener, coach David Fizdale said.

SOCCER: Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke signaled a desire to convince Arsene Wenger to stay on as manager by telling the Associated Press the club remains “very high” on the Frenchman and he would be “very hard” to replace. Wenger has been Arsenal’s manager since 1996. … Bayern Munich and Portugal midfielder Renato Sanches was named 2016’s European Golden Boy ahead of Marcus Rashford and Kingsley Coman. … Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed Loris Karius is the team’s No. 1 keeper but said Simon Mignolet will get the start Tuesday against Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup.

TENNIS: Svetlana Kuznetsova earned a 7-5, 1-6, 7-5 win over defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska in a nearly 3-hour match at the WTA Finals in Singapore. … Kei Nishikori beat Dusan Lajovic 7-5, 6-1 in the first round of the Swiss Indoors in Basel.
