LB Davis pushing to return quickly

- Edgar Thompson

GAINESVILLE — Injured UF linebacker Jarrad Davis is doing everything he can to get back for Saturday’s matchup with Georgia. It still might not be enough. Davis badly sprained his left ankle Oct. 15 against Missouri and has began rehabilitating the injury non-stop ever since. “He’s been in the training room 24-7,” senior safety Marcus Maye said. Davis, a senior from native of Kingsland, Ga., has made 16 consecutive starts, second to Maye’s 18. Davis leads the Gators with 48 tackles and anchors the SEC’s top-ranked defense.

“Losing your main guy on your defense and your centerpiece is definitely a big loss,” Maye said. “Having him back out on the field is definitely going to be exciting, definitely a plus.”

Coach Jim McElwain said Davis’ injury will be evaluated throughout the week to determine his status for the Georgia game. That also is true for injured linemen Bryan Cox Jr. (hand),

Joey Ivie (hand) and Jordan Sherit (knee). All three did light running during Sunday's practice, McElwain said.

“We should know more, obviously, Wednesday,” McElwain said.

McElwain said tight end DeAndre Goolsby is questionable with a hand injury.

“Other than that we’re in pretty good shape,” McElwain said.

Kickoff for Florida’s Nov. 5 visit to Arkansas is set for 3:30 p.m. and the game will air on CBS.

Next game: No. 14 UF vs. Georgia, 3:30 Saturday, CBS
