Herman wowed by Killins’ speed

- Iliana Limon Romero

Speedy UCF running back Adrian Killins isn’t going to be able to sneak up on the Houston Cougars.

Houston coach Tom Herman was quick to note Killins’ speed during his news conference Monday.

“I’m going to check his equipment and see if he doesn't have a turbo charger or something hiding underneath his shoulder pads,” Herman said of Killins, who has returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and made other dynamic plays this season.

Herman said UCF coach Scott Frost quickly worked to help the Knights improve.

“Obviously you go from zero wins to three wins in four games, that’s pretty good,” Herman said the Knights. “Just playing better on all sides of the ball. The defense brought a guy from Oregon over and so they are playing a 3-4 defense. They are very sound in what they do. They are going to overload the run . ... Really good scheme. [Frost] has his guys playing really hard.

“Then obviously on offense, light years different from where they have been. You see speed everywhere.”

Herman said the only way he knew to recover from the SMU loss was to practice.

“The best medicine when you lose is to go back to work,” he said after taking responsibility for the Cougars’ loss.

“For me, turning the page was not difficult at all. We spent the entirety of [Sunday] laying the foundation for how we are going to get better and how we are going to prepare for our one-game season against UCF."

Next game: UCF at Houston, noon Saturday, ESPNU
