Injured Davis returns to practice
GAINESVILLE — UF linebacker Jarrad Davis warmed up Tuesday with his injured left ankle taped, but he was not with the Gators’ starting defense during 11-on-11 drills.
Davis’ status for Saturday’s Georgia game will be determined as the week progresses. The team’s leading tackler was injured during UF’s Oct. 15 win against Missouri and has tirelessly rehabilitated his injury since.
Freshman David Reese worked with the first unit Tuesday.
Defensive tackle Joey Ivie and end Jordan Sherit participated during individual drills. Ivie underwent hand surgery in late September; Sherit had arthroscopic knee surgery earlier this month.
End Bryan Cox Jr. wore a large cast on his injured left hand, while tight end DeAndre Goolsby participated in individual drills despite injuring his hand against Missouri.
Hamstring tightness will sideline point guard Kasey Hill during today’s exhibition game in Jacksonville against Eckerd College.
The decision seems to be precautionary for Hill, who fits heavily into second-year coach Mike White’s plans.
The Gators open the season Nov. 11 against Florida Gulf Coast in Jacksonville. White hopes his team gets a feel for the arena today.
“It would have been a little bit uncomfortable opening the season in a place that you’ve never played in,” White said. Next football game: No. 14 UF vs. Georgia, 3:30 p.m. Saturday, CBS
