Fisher: ’Noles can’t emulate Watson

- Safid Deen

TALLAHASSEE — It’s Clemson week, and Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher could not recall which player is acting as scout team quarterback to help the Seminoles prepare for Deshaun Watson. It doesn’t matter, anyway. “Ain’t nobody going to simulate him anyways,” Fisher said of Watson with a laugh after Tuesday’s practice.

“If they did, he’d be on my field. If he was as good as Deshaun, he’d be on my field.”

College football teams employ scout teams in practice to replicate the same schematic looks they’ll face during games.

While Fisher may have went blank this week, his scout team quarterback from last season is now on his field during practices.

Redshirt freshman starter Deondre Francois wore a makeshift No. 4 jersey and replicated Watson while Sean

Maguire started in place of Everett Golson during Clemson’s 23-13 win over FSU in Death Valley last season.

Francois will get the start at home for the Seminoles (5-2, 2-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) against the Tigers (7-0, 4-0) on Saturday.

Senior receiver Bobo Wilson, who injured his right foot against Wake Forest on Oct. 15, did not practice on Tuesday. He was seen walking on his own without a walking boot in street clothes after practice.

FSU announced the student section and lower bowl of Doak Campbell Stadium are sold out for the Clemson game.

Next game: No. 12 FSU vs. No. 3 Clemson, 8 p.m. Saturday, ABC
