Some injured ’Canes slated to return
CORAL GABLES — Less than a week ago, the Hurricanes took the field against Virginia Tech a battered, depleted team missing several starters.
Now, as Miami continues preparing for Saturday’s game at Notre Dame — where the Hurricanes will seek to snap a three-game losing streak — it seems the team is getting healthier.
Starting defensive end Chad Thomas, who did not travel to Blacksburg and has been dealing with a broken hand, was participating in position drills during the media viewing portion of practice Tuesday. Injured cornerback Sheldrick
Redwine, who was hurt during Miami’s loss to UNC Oct. 15 and did not travel to Virginia Tech, also participated in drills. Defensive tackle Gerald Willis and defensive end
Demetrius Jackson, who missed the Virginia Tech game, alternately worked with their position group and the athletic training staff during the media viewing portion of practice, while safety Rayshawn Jenkins, who suffered a leg injury against the Hokies, also participated in position drills.
Whether any of these players actually take the field Saturday remains to be seen.
“I’m not going to tell the world what I think ’cause I don’t know yet,” Richt said Tuesday. “... But we’ll definitely get some guys back we didn’t have last game.” Defensive end Scott Patchan and offensive lineman
Sunny Odogwu remained absent from practice. Next game: Miami at Notre Dame, 3:30 p.m. Saturday, NBC
