■ AUTO RACING: NASCAR will limit Sprint Cup drivers with more than five years of fulltime Cup experience to 10 races in the Xfinity Series and seven races in the Camping World Truck Series starting next season. … A mistrial was declared in a case involving three men charged with an alleged assault of former NASCAR driver Mike Wallace, his daughter and son-in-law.

■ BASEBALL: A search warrant affidavit released by the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office said the bodies of Marlins RHP Jose Fernandez and two friends had a strong odor of alcohol when they were recovered by divers following a deadly boat crash Sept. 25. … The A’s claimed LHP Giovanni Soto from the Cubs. Soto was designated for assignment Saturday to open a roster spot for slugger Kyle Schwarber.

■ COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Former Indiana player Todd Jadlow told ESPN on Tuesday night he did not mean to demonize coach Bobby Knight in his memoir, “Jadlow: On the Rebound.” In the book, Jadlow claims Knight was physically and emotionall­y abusive to Hoosiers players during the four years Jadlow played with the team. … North Carolina junior F Theo Pinson had surgery on the broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot and is out indefinite­ly, coach Roy Williams said. … Duke freshman F Jayson Tatum (foot sprain) will be out at least two weeks, coach Mike Krzyzewski said. Krzyzewski said the goal is have Tatum ready for the Nov. 11 season opener.

■ COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh is the highest-paid coach this season at $9 million, according to a survey released by USA Today. Alabama coach Nick Saban is second at $6.9 million. …

Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said sophomore RB Kerryon Johnson (ankle) will return Saturday against Mississipp­i. … Gary Johnson of Grambling State, Harold Jackson of Jackson State and Parnell Dickinson of Mississipp­i Valley State are among the latest class selected for induction into the Black College Football Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony will be held in February in Atlanta.

■ GOLF: Officials for the AT&T Byron Nelson and the PGA Tour announced the tournament will move in 2018 to Trinity Forest Golf Club, a new course located about 10 miles south of downtown Dallas. The tournament has been played at the Four Seasons Resort and Club in Irving, Texas, since 1983.

■ SOCCER: Julian Green became the first American to score a competitiv­e goal for Bayern Munich in a 3-1 win over Augsburg in the German Cup. … Juan Mata scored in Manchester United’s 1-0 win over rival Manchester City in the English League Cup. In other action, West Ham eliminated Chelsea 2-1. … Real Madrid defeated Cultural Leonesa 7-1 in the first leg of their Copa del Rey match.

Marco Asensio and Alvaro Morata each scored twice. … Edin Dzeko scored twice as Roma came from behind to defeat Sassuolo 3-1 in Serie A. League leader Juventus notched a 4-1 win over Sampdoria, with defender Giorgio Chiellini scoring a brace. … Whitecaps coach Carl Robinson signed a contract extension through 2020.

■ TENNIS: Svetlana Kuznetsova became the first player to reach the semifinals of the WTA Finals by beating Karolina Pliskova 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (6). In other action, defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska prevailed over Garbine Muguruza 7-6 (1), 6-3.
