Keith Sweat tops Valentine’s festival

- Trevor Fraser

Someone wants to make people fall in love. Whoever they are, they have gathered some of the sexiest voices of the ’80s and ’90s to melt every heart within a thousand yards of UCF. Keith Sweat (pictured), he of “My Body” and “Nobody,” headlines the Valentine’s Music Festival of heartthrobs. At 55, Sweat can still make the audience drip with his namesake. Also included in the lineup are El “Rhythm of the Night” DeBarge, Bobby “Spiritual Predecessor (in More Ways Than One) to Chris” Brown and late-’90s mononym Avant.

One could also call this a new jack swing retrospective, with DeBarge arguably mixing smooth jazz and funk before the genre had a name to Sweat and Brown as the prototypical swingers to Avant keeping the mellow going right at the end of the millennium.

All four will be at the University of Central Florida’s CFE Arena on Feb. 12. Tickets are $52.50-$125, on sale today. Details at ticketmaster.com.
