Fire destroys Osceola’s notorious Sausage Castle

- By Christal Hayes and Stephanie Allen

The notorious Sausage Castle burned to the ground Wednesday, but its longtime resident Mike Busey is vowing to continue the debauchery elsewhere.

The Osceola County house, covered in colorful pornographic artwork and known for hosting wild parties, was found engulfed in flames about 5 a.m. Investigators are calling the fire suspicious.

“It’s pretty awful. I don’t even know,” Busey told the Orlando Sentinel. “... It’s not going to stop me, though. It’s my way of life. I’m here to entertain people. That’s my job to entertain people from all walks of life.”

Osecola Deputy Fire Chief Danny McAvoy said the house on Hickory Tree Road just outside St. Cloud had been vacant for several months and didn’t have electricity. County officials last year talked about foreclosing and demolishing it because it had racked up thousands of dollars in code violations.

Busey said after months of fighting the county, he moved out in January and to Lake County, where he said he hosts parties in a mansion on 80 acres. He hadn’t been at the Osceola house since October.

“I fought and fought until I got tired. It felt like I was wasting money fighting a giant that I wasn’t going to win against,” he said. “We found a location elsewhere and things are going strong.”

The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. McAvoy said the fire is considered suspicious because there was no obvious cause — or any reason for a fire to start in the empty home.

No one was injured, but the house was a total loss.

“The wildest house in America!” received national attention after being featured on MTV and in Vice magazine and was home to “The Mike Busey Traveling Stage Show.” The show featured dwarfs and a 500-pound man in a diaper.
