Montverde streak remains intact
MONTVERDE — Montverde Academy came at Watsonville (Calif.) in waves. led the Eagles’ waves Thursday that broke the Wildcats.
Jackson scored a goal and assisted on another to help the Eagles rout Watsonville 3-0 in the first round of the Montverde Academy Soccer Tournament.
The Eagles (20-0-1, No. 1 in Sentinel Super 16) extended their unbeaten streak to 155 matches.
They will play Covington (La.) St. Paul’s, which defeated Miami Gulliver Prep 3-2 in penalty kicks after a 1-1 tie game.
Montverde also entered No. 1 in several national rankings while Watsonville was No. 10 in the USA Today national rankings.
Montverde scored 36 seconds into the match when beat Watsonville goalkeeper
into the top right corner. The Eagles kept the pressure on the rest of the match. Jackson’s cross helped
put the Eagles up 2-0. Jackson scored later on a cross, beating the keeper bottom left for a 3-0 lead.
Watsonville mustered few threats against the Eagles. Juarez had several saves. The Eagles subbed out most their team in the second half. of

Port Orange Atlantic hosts its own Martin Luther King Holiday Classic, with nine games on Saturday and seven on Monday. The host Sharks (13-3) had a 12-game winning streak snapped in a 63-55 district loss at New Smyrna Beach last week.
