Police arrest man shot amid an Orlando home invasion

- By Stephanie Allen

A home-invasion victim told police he was in the bathroom Wednesday evening when two men scaled the building to get to the second-story balcony and slipped inside his apartment in the Vista Verde complex through an unlocked door.

He said he heard someone going through his things and stepped out “to a gun in his face,” an arrest report states.

The men were wearing all black and the victim, who police said may still be in danger, said he recognized one as an acquaintance nicknamed “Gun.” The other man, later identified as Jamar Lashad Davis, 31, was holding the pistol, according to the report. He then tried to fire it, police said.

These details and others were revealed in Davis’ arrest report this week from the Orlando Police Department.

The victim later showed investigators a minor cut on his hand and said he got it after grabbing the gun’s slide, stopping it from firing. He started struggling with Davis to get control of the weapon and at some point it went off, hitting Davis in the lower back, the report states.

Orlando Police responded about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday to the complex on Hiawassee Road to find that both men had fled.

A witness told investigators he heard four shots and then saw a man with a pistol walk out the victim’s front door. The witness said “blood was pouring out of his upper right butt,” according to the report. Officers wrote that they were following a blood trail when they got a call from Orange County sheriff’s deputies saying they found Davis with a gunshot wound behind a cellphone store on Texas Avenue.

Emergency medical crews took Davis, of Boynton Beach, to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where police arrested him on charges of attempted murder, aggravated battery, grand theft and armed burglary, records show.

Davis remained in the hospital as of Friday afternoon, according to the Orange County Jail.

Police said detectives hadn’t identified the other suspect.
