White likely to receive contract extension

Original 6-year deal is about $2M per season

Now that has his Florida Gators in the Sweet 16, he will likely be getting a sweet contract extension in the very near future.

When new UF athletics director was asked on Thursday about White’s contract status, he assured reporters his coach “will be taken care of.”

“When I got hired at Kansas State, I was kind of the new kid; it was my first year as a head coach and Scott was in the process of establishi­ng his Baylor program,” Martin said. “He hired a guy named Tim Maloney, who is a native New Yorker. Tim and I are dear friends. He’s one of the most incredible human beings that I've ever met and he's a heck of a basketball coach.

“He got me and Scott to become friends because of his passion for both of us. And that's why our friendship continues. … I got at South Carolina, nobody would schedule us. I'm talking about other name schools. … I don't like playing friends, but he said, ‘Let's do this.’”

Madison Square Garden officials said Thursday that ticket sales have been disappoint­ing following the NCAA Tournament second-round upsets of No. 1 see Villanova and No. 2 seed Duke.

There are still plenty of tickets available and the game is very unlikely to even come close to a sellout, a trend that will likely carry over to Sunday’s regional final.
