FHSAA likes DeLand
DeLand High, which has a storied weightlifting pedigree that dates back to the early days of the sport’s adoption by the FHSAA, has been selected to host next month’s boys state championship meets on April 7 and 8.
The one-year agreement for weightlifting comes on the heels of DeLand hosting the FHSAA’s state soccer state finals in February for the first time.
“I think we’ve got one of the nicest gyms I’ve ever seen and with our downtown, DeLand is a nice little destination,” said Bulldogs athletic director
“It’s kind of the same thing as the soccer, where the City of DeLand had renovated Spec Martin Stadium and kind of wanted to show off what we have here.”

But she will pass on that event and instead focus on the long jump and 300-meter hurdles
The meet, named for the legendary 31-year Oak Ridge girls coach who retired in 2010, begins at 8:30 a.m. with field events. Running events are set to start at 9 a.m. and run through mid to late afternoon.
The FSU Relays are also this weekend, beginning Friday.
