What’s up with Disney bag check?

Let’s deal with questions that people — readers, friends, strangers on the street — repeatedly ask me about Orlando’s attractions. How does bag check work at Magic Kingdom now?

As of earlier this month, the bulk of inspection and the metal-detection experience now happens at the Transportation and Ticket Center, the hub connecting the parking lot with the monorail station and ferryboat docks.

This move has prompted some TTC rearrangement. The covered tram stops once marked as Heroes and Villains are now where the bag check and detectors are. The lines for tram boarding and unloading have seeped farther out into the roadway.

Once checked, you may proceed to the ticket windows and the monorail or ferryboat as usual. You won’t get checked again at the theme park.

Visitors traveling from the monorail resorts are checked before they board, and folks traveling via bus from other Disney properties are checked on the far right side of the Magic Kingdom entrance.

Once you get to the theme park, expect a clearer view of the entrance and the park’s railroad station. The center portion of the old bag check already has been removed.

Why is Disney starting its Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in August?

Well, because it can. The event is popular, with a record 32 event nights this year. The company could make the date range more compact, but that would mean closing the Magic Kingdom — Disney World’s most visited park — early for a solid month. This year’s first Not-So-Scary parties will be Aug. 25 and Aug. 29.

Is SeaWorld Orlando charging visitors to go up into Sky Tower?

Since it reopened last month, riding the iconic structure has been included in regular park admission. SeaWorld has had different policies about this in the past, sometimes instituting an extra fee or a small surcharge for people who weren’t annual passholders, but now it’s free for park guests.

How much does an annual pass to Universal’s Volcano Bay water park cost?

Alas, there is no Volcano Bayonly annual pass. Year-round admission to Universal Orlando’s water park opening next month is tagged onto a three-park annual pass that includes Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios Florida. For Florida residents, those passes range between $358.99 and $638.99, depending on block-out dates.

So, how was that Jimmy Fallon guy?

Full disclosure: I had maybe three minutes of one-on-one time with the “Tonight Show” host while he was here for the opening of Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon ride at Universal Studios. No jerky behavior to report. He came off as humble, gracious and happy to share the glory with “Tonight” crew past and present. And dancing with his 3-year-old daughter at the grand opening provided an awwwwgood-dad moment.
