State selects Wekiva Parkway contractor
The state Department of Transportation selected a design-build team to be led by to build a section of the Wekiva Parkway in parts of Lake and Seminole Counties. The team’s bid of $234.5 million is to construct 6 miles of the toll road, which will be mostly elevated along the corridor of State Road 46 from the State Road 429 interchange, east of Camp Challenge Road, to near Longwood-Markham Road in Sanford.
A multi-use trail along a service road is expected to help access adjacent state conservation lands. Along with a river bridge, three wildlife bridges will allow animals to pass between the Seminole State Forest, Rock Springs Run State Reserve and Lower Wekiva River Preserve. Construction is scheduled to begin late this year. 0.9 percent during the first quarter from a year earlier, which was down from the 1.7 percent annualized growth rate during the prior quarter. Occupancy rates during that period were flat at an average 88.3 percent for an area that includes Orange, Seminole, Lake and Osceola counties.
