No. 1 vs. No. 2 in lacrosse playoffs

Bishop Moore is ranked No. 1 in the Sentinel Super Six boys lacrosse rankings, but the Hornets have to prove that point against No. 2 Lake Highland Prep when the rivals square off in a second-round state play-in game tonight.

Bishop Moore (17-2) hosts the Highlander­s (14-6) at 7:30 p.m. in the second game of a playoff doublehead­er between the two Orlando privatesch­ool programs.

The Bishop Moore girls, 16-4 and also atop the Super Six rankings, host the third-ranked Highlander­s (14-7) at 5:30 to start the night.

The two boys teams met on March 21, with Lake Highland prevailing by an 11-10 margin at home. Ths time, the winner keeps its state-championsh­ip hopes alive.

“We are both very talented,” Bishop Moore boys coach said. “I imagine it will be a close battle again. We have to win the possession battle and be smart and patient on offense.”

Lake Mary’s boys (14-5), now No. 3 in the Super Six, are home tonight to face a familiar foe in state No. 1 Ponte Vedra (19-1). The schools have met twice in the past three seasons, splitting those games.

“Ponte Vedra is an offensive juggernaut,” said Rams coach “They are highly talented at face-offs and fast break as well as anyone in the state.”

The Sharks were runner-up a year ago.
