Police: Gang member held in rash of car burglaries at UCF

- By Christal Hayes Staff Writer

A gang was behind a recent rash of car burglaries at the University of Central Florida, according to UCF Police Chief Richard Beary.

The revelation was made at a press conference Friday afternoon as Beary announced a second arrest after more than 30 vehicles were broken into last month near the Lake Claire apartments and several on-campus Greek houses.

San Von Tye Eric Jacarr Broaden, 21, faces 35 charges of burglary. He’s been arrested more than 50 times and is a convicted felon, Beary said.

Broaden also faces a number of other charges, including child neglect after officers discovered a video that posted to Facebook of him holding a loaded gun while lying next to his 3-week-old daughter. Beary said he was disgusted. He said he was also bothered that no one who watched this video reported it. “Nobody called to say this guy has a gun and a 3week-old child is in danger,” Beary said. “… We have to do better.”

Also on Broaden’s Facebook, Beary say officers found a photo he posted about the car burglaries.

“Window poking early morning,” the post reads, according to police. “Call it wake in break.”

Beary said officers are still looking for two other suspects, who also are part of the same group. He would not go into details about the gang at the press conference.

The group is accused of breaking into cars March 20. After officers arrived, the group fled but crashed a short time later. The suspects fled on foot, police said.

Detectives were able to pull surveillance footage at several businesses that helped them find the suspects, Beary said.

Luther Marquell Braddy, 21, was arrested earlier this month on charges of burglary of a conveyance.

Beary said the suspects did not get away with much but caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.
