McElwain says Gator hit 81-yard field goal
The kick is up … and it’s good!
That was the ruling from UF coach who said Gators’ kicker
did in fact nail an 81-yard field goal during spring practices.
The strong-legged redshirt junior posted a video of the field goal Tuesday, but given the distance of the kick and the varied reaction of his teammates it was unclear whether Pineiro actually cleared the uprights.
McElwain confirmed the kick’s authenticity to reporters at the Polk County Gator Gathering.
“I don’t know why it took so long to get out here, but it was real. All right?” McElwain said, according to SEC Country. “Pineiro and pretty much everyone at the time thought the kick was good, with one exclaiming, ‘Drilled it.’ ”
But if you watch the video, notice the UF player waving off the kick underneath the crossbar. Clearly he has no future in officiating.
Pineiro arrived at UF last season with plenty of buzz after he kicked a 77-yarder and posted it on YouTube.
Pineiro, who backed out of his commitment to Alabama to sign with UF, faced no rush or pressure with either booming kick, but clearly is a special talent.
He proved to be no onetrick pony and was a tremendous upgrade in one of the weakest areas of the team during McElwain’s first season, in 2015.

Strong’s supporters cited his disciplinary track record that includes nine player dismissals in his first eight months as coach at Texas from 2014-16.
“You can say a lot of things about Charlie Strong: not enough attention to detail, not good enough coaching hires,” said ,an Austin, Texas, radio host who covers the Longhorns for hornsdigest.com. “But the one thing you can’t call him is someone who ignores discipline.”
Two Bulls players, Jackson and safety
have been arrested since Strong was hired in December. Childs, who suffered a gunshot wound during a road-rage incident in which he was charged, was booted off the team while hospitalized. Jackson has been suspended from all team activities. Neither player was recruited by Strong.
His swift action following the players’ arrests followed his well-chronicled pattern of strictly upholding the “core values” he has instilled at all three of his head coaching stops: honesty, treat women with respect, no drugs, no stealing, no guns.
