Injured owl rescued from swimming pool
A Polk County man found a feathery visitor in his pool Monday morning: an injured owl. The bird had a talon tangled in a tarp and could not fly away, said Kevin Watler, a spokesman for Polk County Fire Rescue. The man called firefighters to his home in Mulberry because he was not sure who else to contact, Watler said. Firefighters got into the water and brought the owl to dry land. Because the bird was injured, they took it to Woodland Wonders Wildlife Rehabilitation Service in Auburndale. The owl seemed to be doing well Monday afternoon, said Joan Waters, director of Woodland Wonders. It was too early to tell whether the bird would be releasable. “So far, so good,” Waters said.
