Knights’ golf delivers best finish since 2009

The UCF men’s golf team’s season ended with one of the best finishes in school history.

The Knights wrapped up NCAA Championsh­ip play in a tie for 14th place at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill.

It was UCF’s best finish since the Knights placed 10th place in 2009 and was the top finish under current coach

“This is a big accomplish­ment,” Wallor said. “We came in here and played well with a lot of very, very good teams to make that 54-hole cut. I’m really proud of my guys.”

The Knights entered the NCAA Championsh­ips ranked No. 47 in the nation. They finished in front of 14 higher-ranked teams.

Extremely windy conditions made life difficult for the field Monday. UCF sophomore who was tied for fourth place entering Monday’s final round, struggled in the tough conditions and dropped back to finish tied for 23rd at 1-over par for the tournament.

Freshman was +5 for the four rounds and finished in a tie for 39th. Juniors and

each wrapped up play in a tie for 72nd place at 13-over. Senior

was 83rd at final collegiate +25 in event.

With one senior on a team that advanced to the final day of stroke play this season, Wallor said the Knights’ strong play should help them next season.

“We lose one senior in Ryan Stovash, who has played a lot of golf for us,” Wallor said. “Having said that, we’ve got a great player at home in and some good freshman recruits coming in. I’m really excited for our future.” his Mississipp­i sophomore
