Wright-Phillips scores 2 late goals as Red Bulls beat Union

Bradley Wright-Phillips scored two late goals and the New York Red Bulls beat the host Philadelph­ia Union 2-0 on Sunday.

Wright-Phillips put a sliding one-touch, off a cross from Kemar Lawrence, into the net from a step inside the 6-yard box in the 87th minute to give the Red Bulls a 1-0 lead.

It was New York's first road goal since WrightPhil­lips scored in the 13th minute of a 4-1 loss at Houston on April 1, snapping a drought of more than 520 minutes. He added his eighth of the season in the second minute of stoppage time.

Philadelph­ia played a man down after Derrick Jones was given a straight red card for a foul on Felipe Martins in the 53rd minute.

Luis Robles had three saves, including a diving, one-handed stop of a rocket by Chris Pontius from point-blank range in the 22nd, and recorded his first shutout since a 2-0 win over Columbus on April 22.

Jozy Altidore and Jordan Hamilton scored second-half goals as Toronto FC stretched its home unbeaten streak to nine games on Saturday night.

Sebastian Giovinco assisted on both MLS-leading (9-2-5).

The game marked captain Michael Bradley's 100th in all competitio­ns for Toronto.

It also was the first opportunit­y for coach Greg Vanney to field all three designated players — Bradley, Altidore and Giovinco — since May 3 due to injuries and internatio­nal duty. goals for Toronto

And the three stars engineered the breakthrou­gh goal in the 60th minute after Bradley broke up a D.C. United attack. He fed the ball to Giovinco, who split the defense with a perfect pass to Altidore. The U.S. internatio­nal pushed the ball ahead with a fine first touch and then calmly beat Hamid from the edge of the box for his seventh of the season.

Hamilton, who had come on in the 75th minute, made it 2-0 on glancing header in the 85th off Giovinco's corner.

Nemanja Nikolic and Luis Solignac scored as Chicago handed New England its first home loss of the season.

Nikolic scored his MLSleading 13th goal in the 18th minute, beating an offside trap and, after having his initial shot blocked by goalie Cody Cropper, firing in the rebound. Three quick passes found Solignac in front of the goal as he finished from close range in the 61st for his fourth goal. Chicago is unbeaten in eight matches.

Alan Gordon came on in the 80th minute and scored nine minutes later to give host Colorado a comeback victory over Portland.

Gordon headed in a cross over a defender for his second straight late winner in MLS play. He ripped off his jersey and went into the crowd to celebrate, for which he was given a yellow card.

Miguel Almiron scored the go-ahead goal amid a bevy of defenders in the 67th minute for the winning expansion host. The game was delayed 22 minutes because of lightning.

Alessandri­ni scored in stoppage time as host Los Angeles rallied for a draw. Alessandri­ni poked a cross past Bradford Jamieson in the fourth minute of injury time.

David Villa didn't let the rain bother him, scoring twice. The star striker from Spain scored his 50th and 51st MLS career goals in the second half.

Yura Movsisyan chipped in from pointblank range in the 84th minute.

Cristian Techera scored on a free kick in the 74th minute to help the host Whitecaps secure a tie. Maximilian­o Urruti scored for Dallas in the 52nd minute.

Tim Melia had his MLSleading ninth shutout of the season for visitor Sporting Kansas City.
