Zaire, Fruhmorgen begin classes at UF

-

UF announced Notre Dame graduate-transfer

offiically has started summer classes and is a member of the Gators’ football team.

Florida also announced former Clemson offensive lineman enrolled in classes Monday.

Fruhmorgen, a junior from Tampa, will major in history while Zaire, of Kettering, Ohio, is taking classes in UF’s mass communications graduate program.

Zaire will be immediately eligible to play after earning his Notre Dame bachelor’s degree and joins a crowded starting quarterback competition.

Fruhmorgen will need to sit out the upcoming season in compliance with NCAA undergraduate-transfer rules. He started in eight games for the Tigers last season during their run to the national title, posting 13 knockdown blocks.

The left-handed dualthreat Zaire earned far more attention during the offseason. A change in the SEC graduate-transfer rules cleared the path for his transfer to UF.

Zaire, who also considered Texas, Wisconsin and Harvard, has much to prove as a player following an uneven career at Notre Dame. During his first college start, Zaire was named the MVP of the Music City Bowl in 2014 in a win over LSU.

He then opened the 2015 season as the starter but suffered a broken ankle against Virginia during the second game and eventually lost his starting job to

Zaire was just 7-of-18 passing for 111 yards at the time of his injury but had rushed for 87 yards on 10 carries against the Cavaliers.

Zaire struggled during the 2016 opener, a 50-47 overtime loss to Texas. Zaire was 2-of-5 passing for 23 yards and failed to gain a yard on three carries. Zaire attempted just 18 passes and 17 rushes the remainder of last season.

The ACC Network is one step closer to becoming a reality after the ESPNowned conference channel reportedly secured a distribution deal.

According to the Sports Business Journal, the network “recently secured its first carriage agreements with digital video providers.” Details of the agreement were not made available by ESPN, according to the report, but the deal will provide consumers a place to watch the channel set to debut in August 2019.

The progress on distribution of the new channel is positive news for the ACC, which has been working toward the creation of its own conference channel for years. After extensive discussion about developing its own channel, the league announced a partnership with ESPN and a formal launch date last year. Throughout the ACC Network planning process, declining cable television subscriptions and recent layoffs at ESPN led many to wonder whether the league’s channel would get off the ground. ACC commissioner

pushed back against criticism during the league’s spring meetings in May and insisted the network was on track to launch in 2019.

Former UCF guard earned a spot on the Miami Heat’s NBA Summer League roster. The Jones High alum ranked second in the nation in 3-pointers made last season and finished his college career as UCF’s career record holder in 3-pointers made in a game (11), a season (126) and a career (274).

The Heat will first play in the Orlando Summer League, which is Saturday through Thursday at Amway Center. The team will then play in the Las Vegas portion of summer league July 7-17. shooting
