Keeping weight off no issue for St. Louis

CORAL GABLES — Miami Hurricanes tackle Tyree St. Louis would love to say it has been some strict diet and workout routine that has kept his weight in check during the offseason.

Then again, he’d rather keep it honest.

St. Louis has dropped 10 pounds since last year and lowered his body fat to 16 percent.

“I don’t really know how I do it,” St. Louis said. “I don’t do extra cardio work. I just do the stuff that we do here.”

St. Louis said he expects to enter preseason camp at 310. The lowered weight should allow him more leeway should he gain weight during the season.

If he were to pinpoint one reason for the improvement, it would be getting more acclimated to the weight-training program.

The Hurricanes are more about specializing workouts for each position group.

“I feel like last year, they were trying to hit everything cylinder,” St. Louis said.

“We were doing all types of workouts last year. We were lifting four times a week.” provide a solid supporting cast.

After yet another knee injury, defensive end

appears finally ready for a return.

Patchan has looked good in 1-on-1 drills, according to McIntosh.

“He doesn’t look like he’s still hurt. He’s going to be in the rotation, too,” McIntosh said.

Patchan has been plagued by injuries throughout his career. He’s had three knee surgeries since his senior year of high school. After being a fourstar recruit, his health has only allowed him to play one game at UM.

Of the young members in the secondary, Redwine said he has been most impressed by freshman

“He’s one of the hardest hitters on the team,” Redwine said. “He’s real aggressive and he’s good a kid, a good learner, a fast learner.”
