The Miami Hurricanes’ basketball program was dealt a huge blow when incoming freshman
sustained a knee injury that will require surgery.
Walker, a 6-foot-4 guard, tore the meniscus in his right knee during a Tuesday workout.
There is no timetable on his return.
“Lonnie suffered an injury in practice,” coach
said in a statement released by the school. “The timeframe for his return will be determined after the surgery.”
Walker, who played at Reading High School in Pennsylvania, was a McDonald’s and Jordan Brand Classic All-American.
He is one of UM’s most highly touted recruits in recent history.
Several NBA draft analysts are projecting him as a first-round pick next year.
Walker took to Twitter to let everyone know he expects to fully recover.
“For everyone asking I did tear my meniscus,” he tweeted late Tuesday night.
“But I promise this will not slow me down.
“Minor setback for a major comeback Isaiah: 40-29.”
