Three Seminoles earn preseason honors
Despite being hailed the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Coast Conference this season, the Florida State football team only landed three players on the All-ACC preseason team, released on Wednesday. FSU safety cornerback
and center each earned consideration by 167 media members during the ACC Kickoff last week.
James was the third most voted player with 123 votes at his position behind Louisville quarterback
(132) and Miami running back
(127). FSU quarterback
finished second in the quarterback race with 29 votes, while running back finished third with 38 votes behind Walton and Georgia Tech’s (75). Clemson led all schools with five players making the cut, highlighted by defensive tackles and each earning 105 votes, edging out FSU’s (54) and (12). FSU kicker placed second with votes behind Miami’s (52). Miami landed four players on the preseason AllACC team after being picked to win the league’s Coastal Division. In addition to Walton and Badgley, UM receiver and
34 linebacker earned preseason AllACC honors.
Both Richards and Quarterman, who were freshman All-Americans last season, finished second in voting at their respective positions.
Richards had 934 yards last season, breaking
31-year-old freshman receiving record. Quarterman, meanwhile, finished second on the team with 84 tackles.
Other Florida State players to receive consideration included: receivers and tight end offensive linemen
and defensive ends and linebackers and and defensive backs and
the commissioner of the American Athletic Conference, on Tuesday announced the upcoming home-and-home series for the Owls and Hurricanes during AAC media day in Rhode Island.
Neither Miami nor Temple has announced the matchup, though reports indicate the Owls would travel to South Florida in 2020, with the Hurricanes heading to Philadelphia in 2023.
The Hurricanes have dominated their all-time series against Temple, going 13-1 against the Owls with the lone loss coming the first time the teams played in 1930.
But between 1992-2005, the Hurricanes won 13 straight against the Owls, outscoring Temple 578-136.
That said, Temple has improved since the two teams met regularly.
Last season, the Owls posted a 10-4 record and defeated Navy 34-10 to win the AAC championship.
But the two schools’ longstanding history isn’t the only reason fans might raise an eyebrow at the matchup.
Former Hurricanes coach headed the Temple program for five seasons before he was hired at Miami in 2010.
