for two new high-rise projects near Lake Eola Park.

Developers are seeking city approvals for two new high-rise projects in downtown Orlando — a Cambria Hotel across the street from Lake Eola Park and a new 13-story apartment building a couple blocks north of that.

The Cambria Hotel & Suites plan is shaping up again, after it stalled a few years ago, at the southwest corner of East Washington Street and North Rosalind Avenue.

That’s currently a vacant lot next to St. George Orthodox Church, and across Washington from the Metropolitan apartment building — which was formerly a hotel.

Like other Cambria Hotels, the plan submitted to the city shows a modern design with balcony areas, overlooking the lake. The plan shows an eightstory structure with 155 rooms. Cambria is a brand of Choice Hotels.

The apartment plan is for the vacant corner of Livingston Street and Rosalind. Developers there are seeking to close a spur of Rosalind that heads north to Livingston after traffic on Rosalind curves west to continue along North Magnolia Avenue.

The apartment application is for 389 units, with 14,000 square feet of ground floor retail, a small plaza fronting North Rosalind Avenue, a small dog run and a multi-story parking garage.

The apartment plan is submitted by Kimley-Horn planning and engineering firm for the 1.79-acre site. Property records indicate that site is currently split between two owners, including a Colombian firm with offices in Boca Raton, Inversiones Nuevo Stiro.

The hotel plan is submitted by Mark Hurowitz of Consolidated Mark Development, which is a Boston-area company with offices also in Sunny Isles Beach.

The hotel site is owned by an affiliate of Maryland-based Choice Hotels, Ortel Partners LLC.

Both new projects are on the agenda for the Sept. 19 meeting of the City of Orlando’s Municipal Planning Board.

There’s been plenty of interest in building around Lake Eola recently, including the ongoing construction for Modera Central, a 22-story apartment building that will also house Orlando’s University Club, 150 E. Central Blvd.
