A naked Florida man fired a shot at his neighbor Thursday after she complained his dog was loose, Volusia County deputies said. Michelle Simpson, 38, went to complain to her neighbor, Robert Mosher, 71, that his Boston Terrier was running on her family’s property in Orange City, an arrest affidavit said.

She said the 12-pound puppy was scaring horses on her family’s Alice Drive property and it bit her shoe when she tried shooing it away, records show. About 1:30 a.m., she went over to Mosher’s home and started banging on the door and ringing the door bell, the Volusia County Sheriff ’s Office said.

She yelled that she was their neighbor and their dog had gotten loose, deputies said.

Mosher was asleep in bed with his wife. He told deputies he heard the banging, got his gun and went to the door in the nude, an arrest affidavit said. He shot once through the window of his door, an arrest report states. At first, he said it was an accident but then said he fired so she’d go away, the arrest report states.

“Some crazy woman was drunk or whatever is banging on my door, kicking my door in,” he told 911 dispatchers. “I fired a shot through the door. I don’t believe that I hit her.”

Simpson ran away after she heard the shot. She thought she was shot and called 911. Deputies say her forearm and abdomen were cut by glass. The injuries were non-lifethreatening. Deputies say Mosher opened fire again as she ran. Simpson told authorities his wife yelled at him to stop.

“He took a second shot at me as if he was trying to, in again my own words, kill me,” Simpson told a 911 dispatcher. “… That’s crazy, dude! That’s craziness.”

Mosher faces a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
