Trio of defensive linemen released

DAVIE — The Miami Dolphins began trimming the training-camp roster a day early on Friday, releasing a trio of defensive linemen, two of whom spent most of last season with the team.

Defensive tackles Nick Williams and Julius Warmsley were informed they will be released by today’s 4 p.m. deadline, according to league sources.

Williams, a converted 3-4 defensive end the Dolphins re-signed this offseason, tallied two tackles in the four preseason games he played in last month.

Warmsley, who initially made Miami’s 53-man roster last season before spending most of the year on the practice squad, contributed six tackles and one sack during his four preseason games.

Defensive lineman Lawrence Okoye, a former Olympian who struggled during training camp, was also released, according to a league source.

Williams, Warmsley and Okoye’s release hints that defensive tackle Vincent Taylor, the Dolphins’ sixth-round pick, and defensive end Terrence Fede, who has spent the past three years with the Dolphins, could be sticking around a little longer.

The Dolphins also haven’t released undrafted rookies Praise Martin-Oguike and Cameron Malveaux, two defensive ends who would be ideal candidates for Miami’s 10-player practice squad.

Offensive lineman Avery Young, a former Palm Beach Gardens standout, and offensive guard Isame Faciane were among the handful of players cut Friday evening.

The Dolphins waived punter Matt Darr on Friday, which indicates that rookie punter Matt Haack won their camp battle.
