Despite a career-best game

in UCF’s season opener, quarterback McKenzie Milton sees room for improvement.

Hurricane Irma is still several days away from Central Florida, but it’s already wreaking havoc on the sports schedule.

The storm prompted UCF to move up Saturday’s home game against Memphis to Friday at 6:30 p.m., the school said Tuesday. Spectrum Stadium will open at 5 p.m. for the teams’ American Athletic Conference opener, but there will be no tailgating on campus.

“First responders throughout Central Florida will be preparing for this Category 5 storm and UCF will not have the law enforcement resources needed to staff tailgating areas,” UCF said in a statement.

Florida and Florida State are still discussing what to do with their home games scheduled for Saturday.

The NFL said the Dolphins' season opener against the Bucs will not be played in Miami as scheduled on Sunday, and it may be moved to a neutral site because of Hurricane Irma.

If the game is not relocated, it will be postponed until November, when the teams share the same bye week. Kickoff had been scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m.

A decision on when and where to play is expected today.

On the high school level, many games are being shifted earlier. So far, 21 games have been switched from Friday night to Thursday. Seminole and Volusia County both directed all of their schools to play games before Friday.
