Oak Ridge at Jones to resume

-

Oak Ridge will travel to Jones on Tuesday to complete a football game that began two weeks ago.

Play will resume at 5:30 p.m. with Jones leading 13-0 through one quarter of play. Oak Ridge (0-2) will have the ball at its own 20 yard line to start the second quarter and will receive the kickoff after halftime.

The rivalry game was stopped due to inclement weather on Sept. 1 and initially rescheduled for Monday of this week before Hurricane Irma’s arrival wreaked more havoc on fall sports athletic schedules.

Even though Orange County has not permitted public schools to hold practices until classes resume Monday, coaches at both schools felt Tuesday was the only date they’d be able to finish the game.

“We already practiced a whole week for each other a couple weeks ago, we just didn’t get to finish the game,” said coach of Jones (1-1), which is ranked No. 5 in the Sentinel Super 16. “We’ll revisit some stuff on Monday and play it on Tuesday, because who knows how the schedule will be affected the rest of the season.” into the first quarter. The teams resumed play the next morning, with Gateway winning 23-14.

Boone is scheduled to play at Apopka on Friday of next week, but the Blue Darters have their own stadium issues with a fallen light tower.

Three of Orlando’s top girls volleyball teams, Bishop Moore, The First Academy and Lake Highland Prep, will return to the court for tournament play this weekend to revive a season interrupted by Hurricane Irma.

All three go to Tampa for the Berkeley Prep Premier invitational, which tips off this afternoon and continues through Saturday’s bracket finals, set for 3:30 p.m.

Class 6A Bishop Moore won the its second consecutive FHSAA championship last fall. TFA captured the 4A title. And Lake Highland was the 5A state runner-up.

TFA (3-2) also practiced on Wednesday and Thursday.

Bishop Moore, which is 5-0, scheduled an off-campus practice at the Orlando Sports Center for Thursday after a full week with no games or practices.
