Health inspection

A Waffle House restaurant in Apopka was closed temporarily by a health inspector because of roaches.

A report from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation shows an inspector found 26 roaches in the storage room that contained the walk-in cooler.

The inspection took place Sept. 5. The restaurant reopened Sept. 6 after a followup inspection. It is located at 236 E. Main St. in Apopka.

The breakfast restaurant totaled eight violations during the visit, including another high priority violation for using weak dishwasher sanitizing liquid.

Basic violations included soil and debris under shelving, an open dumpster lid and heavy grease under the grease trap in the dumpster area.

“We make every effort to provide a clean and safe restaurant for our customers, and this restaurant did not live up to our standards,” said a statement from Waffle House spokesman Pat Warner. “We apologize to our customers for letting them down and want to ensure them we are taking every effort to correct the issues.”

The inspection was prompted by a complaint to state restaurant authorities.
