Lake Nona needs no rest

-

Michael Kern threw for 329 yards and five touchdowns and Lake Nona posted its third district football victory in a span of eight days with a 34-21 road win at Harmony on Thursday night.

With the scored tied at 21-21, Kerns found Anthony Queeley for a 13-yard TD pass that proved to be the game-winner with 7:52 left. He tacked on a 15-yard scoring pass to Queeley in the final seconds.

The Lions improved to 5-1, 4-0 in Class 7A, District 5, just ahead of East River (3-0).

Holding on to a 14-7 lead, the Lions scored in the final minute of the first half as Kern led his team on a 7-play, 98-yard drive capped off with a 40-yard scoring pass to Anthony Manning with 18 seconds to go in the second quarter.

Harmony quarterback Nate Hersitch passed for 297 yards and three touchdowns but was intercepted twice in the loss.

Lake Mary Prep remained undefeated with a 144-158 win on Tuesday against The First Academy (18-2). But the Griffins will be without two key players when they face an elite field at this weekend’s Honda Classic High School Invitational at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens.

Mimi Chen, who won the 1A individual state crown as a ninth grader last season, and Amy Zhang are both competing in junior events this weekend.

Circle Christian’s boys will go to the Honda without its two aces, senior UF commit Eugene Hong and sophomore sensation Canon Claycomb.
