Injury brings end to volleyball final

The Lake Highland Prep vs. The First Academy Class 5A, District 6 final, hosted by Trinity Prep on Thursday night, was suspended after TFA senior

suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury early in the match.

Ellis, an outside hitter for the Royals (18-8), went up for an attack and crumpled to the floor as she landed.

Her injury occurred with the score tied 3-3 in the first game of a best-offive match. Administra­tors called 9-1-1 and an ambulance transporte­d the player to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

Play is scheduled to continue on Monday at Lake Highland Prep (20-2), starting at 6 p.m. TFA athletic director

said just after 9 p.m. on Thursday that the school was not divulging the name of the injured player until receiving approval from her parents.

“I’m on the way to the hospital now,” Cohen said. “You see this kind of thing in football and kids kind of shake it off. But it’s not something you see in volleyball. It was tough for our girls, for everybody.

“Lake Highland was great. They said they didn’t want us to feel pressured to finish the match tonight.”
