in the Roger Trindade manslaughter case goes before a judge on an unrelated battery charge.

A teenager charged with manslaughter in the death of a Winter Park High School student last year went before a judge Tuesday for a brief scheduling hearing on an unrelated battery charge.

Simeon Hall is one of two teenagers charged in the manslaughter of Roger Trindade, a 15-year-old Winter Park High School student who died in October 2016 after being beaten on Park Avenue. He is being held on no bond in the Orange County Jail.

In early October, Simeon was arrested again after another teenager told police he punched him repeatedly at Ward Park, on Perth Lane in Winter Park.

Circuit Judge Reginald Whitehead set Simeon’s next court hearing for Dec. 13, with a trial tentatively scheduled for mid-January. Simeon has pleaded not guilty.

Tuesday’s hearing lasted only a few minutes and Simeon did not speak except to greet the judge.

The teenager injured in the alleged Perth Lane battery told police the attack was unprovoked. He was sitting at a picnic table at the park Oct. 7 with a few friends when Simeon approached him from behind, he told police.

The first punch knocked the teenager to the ground but Simeon kept punching, hitting the teenager’s head four or five more times, court records show. The teen said he got back up and ran to his car. He managed to get away, but not before Simeon punched him again in the nose, the teenager told police.

Police described his injuries as serious but not lifethreatening.

Simeon faces charges of felony battery with great bodily harm and damaging his electronic monitoring equipment.

He and Jesse Sutherland, now both 16, were charged with manslaughter in the death of Roger Trindade, who was taken off life support Oct. 17, 2016, after two days of unconsciousness. Their trials were set for November, but prosecutors decided to move them out of juvenile court and charge them as adults earlier this month — about a year after Roger’s death.

New trial dates in that case have not yet been set.

Jesse faced a judge for the adult charges last week and was released on a $7,600 bond Friday. His attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf Monday.

A third teenager arrested in connection with Roger’s death pleaded no contest to charges of battery on a different minor and witness tampering. The Orlando Sentinel is not naming him because his case is staying in juvenile court.

Simeon has another arraignment scheduled for Thursday in the manslaughter case.
