Judge reinstates Elliott suspension

-

A federal judge cleared the way Monday night for the NFL to enforce a sixgame suspension of Cowboys running back

over domestic allegations. U.S. District Judge

denied the request for a preliminary injunction from players’ union attorneys working for Elliott. Failla put the ruling on hold for 24 hours to give Elliott’s legal team time to appeal, a likely move.

It’s the second time a federal ruling has overturned a reprieve that kept Elliott on the field. Earlier this month, a federal appeals court threw out a Texas court’s injunction and ordered the dismissal of Elliott’s lawsuit there.

The NFL briefly enforced Commissioner

suspension before a judge sitting in for Failla in the Southern District of New York issued a temporary restraining order that blocked the punishment for the second time.

If the suspension holds this time, Elliott will be out starting Sunday at home against the Chiefs. He will be eligible to return Dec. 17. violence

Garoppolo to 49ers: The 49ers finally have a win. The 0-8 team traded for Patriots backup quarterback ESPN reported.

The 49ers gave the Patriots a second-round 2018 draft pick for understudy, Schefter reported, and released quarterback in a corresponding move.

Garoppolo was the Patriots’ second-round pick in 2014. The 25-year-old is scheduled to be a free agent after this season, although it seems likely the 49ers made the deal with the hope of signing him to a long-term contract.

Miller’s surgery ‘urgent’: Bears tight end

had urgent vascular surgery Sunday night to repair a torn popliteal artery after he dislocated his knee during a loss to the Saints earlier in the day.

Surgeons from the University Medical Center New Orleans completed successful surgery to stabilize the injury. Miller, 33, remains at the hospital for further evaluation.

Bears coach said one of the concerns that comes with such an injury is that doctors might have needed to amputate Miller’s leg had they not been able to repair the artery. But he said the doctors “feel good about where he is now, as it relates to that.”

ESPN reported that there also was orthopedic damage to the knee.
