Wekiva holds up, Seminole climbs

Seminole moved back into the Top 10 of the Sentinel Super 16 football rankings and Wekiva strengthen­ed its position as one of the top teams in the area with district championsh­ip victories last week.

Seminole is up three spots to No. 9 after winning 49-27 at home vs. then-No. 9 Lake Mary.

The Rams dropped two spots to No. 11 entering this week’s season finale against No. 2 Winter Park.

Seminole finishes at No. 7 Bishop Moore.

Also Friday, No. 15 Boone hosts No. 17 Edgewater in Orlando’s oldest ongoing rivalry.

Wekiva knocked off rival Apopka for the first time in 11 tries to secure a home playoff game in two weeks.

The Mustangs opened a big lead by returning an intercepti­on and blocked punt for touchdowns in a 22-14 win.

“We’ve got to just keep building,” Wekiva coach Rich Bedesem said.

“I think now ... people can start talking about us.”
