OPD: Man backed into, killed friend in a parking garage

- By Michael Williams

An Orlando man faces manslaughter charges after he backed into his friend in a downtown Orlando parking garage Wednesday morning, killing him, according to the Orlando Police Department.

William Aloupis, 25, was seen on surveillance video walking out of an elevator at the Lincoln Plaza garage on Orange Avenue with two other friends, according to a police report.

One of the friends, Jonathan Anglada, sat against a wall while Aloupis and the third friend, Matthew Molina, went to get Anglada’s Honda Civic, police said.

Aloupis put the Honda Civic in reverse and the car moved in Anglada’s direction before stopping near where he was seated.

The car moved forward and then reversed again, pinning Anglada against the wall, authorities said.

Aloupis and Molina then loaded Anglada in the back of the car and flagged down an Orlando Fire Department truck, according to a report. Anglada was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Molina called 911 and initially told dispatchers he had found Anglada bleeding from his head inside the parking garage, authorities said.

He later told detectives Aloupis told him to lie, according to an arrest affidavit.

According to the affidavit, Molina told police he and the other men had all been drinking alcohol — at least seven shots of Pinnacle vodka and a double whiskey and coke. He told police none of them should have been driving.

Aloupis said he was “too intoxicated to drive but was handed the keys to the decedent’s vehicle,” which he then drove, according to the report.

He was charged with manslaughter by culpable negligence, police said.

No other injuries were reported.
