Two men fleeing Volusia County deputies chose the wrong Daytona Beach backyard to run through Thursday night.

A pit bull in one backyard on Wildrose Lane chased down and tackled one of the suspects, slowing the pair and contributing to the arrest of Deonte Broady, 25, and Corey Williams, 21, according to the Volusia County Sheriff ’s Office.

The two face several charges, including possession of a controlled substance with an intent to sell/deliver, trafficking in heroin and resisting without violence.

Broady and Williams, both of Daytona Beach, were arrested with a combined $1,967 in cash, heroin and crack cocaine on them, deputies said in the report.

At about 6 p.m., deputies near Hurst Street and Jimmy Ann Drive in Daytona Beach pulled over a silver Chevrolet Camaro that had been reported stolen, according to an incident report. The car stopped momentarily before the suspects drove off, deputies said. On Wildrose Lane, Broady and Williams abandoned the car and fled on foot.

Security footage released Thursday, taken from a police helicopter, showed Williams and Broady running through multiple backyards on Wildrose Lane as officers gave chase. About 45 seconds into the 95-second video released by Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, the suspects appear to surprise the pooch.

But the dog springs into action when the men start to run toward the dog owner’s general direction.

The dog lunges and takes down a suspect. “One’s getting attacked by a neighbor’s dog here,” someone in the helicopter says on the video.

Police searched the Camaro after the arrests and found two digital scales and the car’s license plate, deputies said.

According to the incident report, Broady was on probation for grand theft of a motor vehicle when arrested and Williams was on probation for possession of cocaine.

According to the report, neither man was wearing shoes when taken into custody.
